Action Based Learning (ABL)

Learning in the ABL Lab
The RCES Brain STAR Action Based Learning (ABL) Lab is a series of ten stations designed to help fill developmental movement gaps with the intention of enhancing learning while strengthening neural connections.  Students (grades K-2) visit the lab on a regular exploratory rotation.  In addition to filling movement gaps, the lab is used to integrate classroom curriculum to enhance kinesthetic learning.  This exploratory is provided by Commit to Be Fit, a grant-funded school-based wellness program.

Visual Arts

RCES art
The elementary visual arts curriculum helps students understand how media, technique and process are used to create works of art. Students also learn how artworks are structured and how art has a variety of functions. Students learn how to identify, analyze and select subject matter, symbols and ideas for personal expression. They are taught how historical and cultural contexts provide meaning for works of art as well as how to assess the merits of their own artworks and the artworks of others.
